Production Manager

The Production Manager coordinates the activities of the manufacturing team to ensure the efficient and consistent production of goods to the expected performance in terms of quality, cost and delivery to customers. The Production Manager will apply their own expertise to provide, maintain and seek to continuously improve cost-effective and Good Medical Practice - compliant manufacturing processes, procedures and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
Provide leadership of all production activities and processes at SML.
Assist the Head of Operations and colleagues to develop and deliver short, mid and long-term departmental goals and objectives in support of Operational goals and Business Objectives, and establishing meaningful, associated KPI’s
Support the Operations team and suppliers in problem-solving and resolution of product and component quality concerns and in the implementation of engineering and process changes:
Provide mentoring and coaching to develop the manufacturing expertise and competence of the Manufacturing team
Provide leadership in the application of continuous improvement tools and techniques for problem-solving, planning and implementation of initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste and improve the safety of manufacturing processes and equipment
Support NC/CAPA process for and to conduct periodic review of the effectiveness of processes and procedures related to Manufacturing tasks
Investigate and promote the adaptation of best-practices and technical innovations within the medical devices manufacturing field and to adopt transferable best practice from other sectors if appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential
>5 years relevant manufacturing supervision/management experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably but not necessarily, medical devices
High level of numeracy and literacy skills
Demonstrable experience in the development and up-skilling of production team members and team-leaders
Competence in evaluating cost-reduction opportunities and capital investment justification
Demonstrable problem-solving ability
Familiarity with good personnel-management techniques and practices to ensure fairness and consistency in their application.
Desirable:
HNC/HND or higher qualification in a technical discipline
Experience of working within ISO13485 Regulations
Track-record of the implementation of process innovation and/or continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment
Six-Sigma trained and experienced in the implementation or roll-out of 6-Sigma methodologies
Experience of light-assembly of injection moulded, thermoplastic components
Mentoring or coaching experience (not necessarily in a work context).
