Purpose of the Role
Merchant Square is Glasgow’s iconic dining, drinks and entertainment venue at the heart of the Merchant City. Home to an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, experiences and events, Merchant Square plays host to a popular programme of events. These include Glasgow’s biggest Hogmanay party, festivals, live sports, conferences, charity events, markets, fairs and many more. It can also be hired out as a unique private event venue for up to 2,400 guests.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional with a passion for delivering great events and a love for Glasgow’s entertainment scene. You’ll own and shape the Merchant Square events programme as one of the city’s leading venues.
This is a highly flexible role, but the successful candidate would be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to deliver events where required.
The role will be largely working from home with a proportion of time spent at Merchant Square.
Key Responsibilities
Main responsibilities
Delivery of the annual events programme: Creating an annual plan of public events
Managing the delivery of these events
Securing income and sponsorship
Managing the budget (income and expenditure)
Evaluation and reporting
Increasing income from private venue hire: Raising the profile of Merchant Square as a venue for hire, targeting potential customers (directly and event companies/agencies)
Handling venue hire enquiries and providing quotes
Providing an events management service to venue hire customers
Managing suppliers and liaising with Merchant Square tenants
Budgeting, invoicing & reporting
Merchant Square marketing: Managing social media channels and creating some content
Collecting marketing material such as special offers from tenants
Updating the Merchant Square website
Creating marketing materials for events
Managing marketing suppliers such as the content creator
Developing relationships and liaising with partners and suppliers: Merchant Square tenants including regular meetings
Local, city and destination partners
Sponsors

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria and experience
Full event production for major public events
Experience organising temporary entertainment licences and possession of a personal licence
Hospitality experience is preferred
Event income generation and event profit and loss management
Securing sponsorship
Full Health and Safety management and implementation
Security planning
Marketing and content experience preferred
Working Hours - 24 Hours Per week. Some weekend and evening working subject to major event requirements.
Salary - £25,000 per annum subject to experience, plus business generation bonus / commission payment
